What happens in my first session? Your first session is all about you sharing what’s brought you to therapy at your own pace. Together, we’ll start to build an understanding of what you’re experiencing and what you hope to achieve through our work together. There’s no pressure – this is your time to be heard.
How many sessions will I need? This varies from person to person, as everyone’s journey is different. Some people find what they need in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. We’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy is working for you and adjust our approach as needed.
Is what I say confidential? Yes, everything you share is completely confidential. The only exception is if there’s an immediate risk of serious harm to you or someone else – this is a legal requirement that I’ll explain fully during our initial consultation so you know exactly where you stand.
How flexible are you with scheduling? I understand that life can be unpredictable and work schedules vary. I do my best to offer flexible appointment times and will work with you to find slots that fit your routine wherever possible.
How much do sessions cost? My session fees are £80.00 for a 60-minute session. I also offer a free initial telephone or online consultation so you can get a feel for my approach before committing to paid sessions.
How long are sessions and how often do we meet? Sessions are typically 60 minutes long and most people find weekly sessions work well, though we can discuss what frequency feels right for you. Some people prefer fortnightly sessions, as they progress.
Do I need a referral from my GP? No, you can contact me directly – no referral is needed. However, it’s often helpful to let your GP know you’re having counselling, especially if you’re taking any medication or have ongoing health concerns.
What if I get emotional or cry during the session? This is completely normal and expected – having emotions come up is often part of the healing process. I will give you all the time and space you need.
Can I bring notes or write things down during our session? Absolutely. Some people find it helpful to jot down thoughts beforehand or take notes during our session. Whatever helps you feel more comfortable and get the most from our time together.
What if I don’t know what to talk about? Don’t worry – this is very common. I’ll help guide the conversation and ask gentle questions to help you explore what’s on your mind. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out before you arrive.
Is online therapy as effective as face-to-face? Many people find online sessions just as helpful as in-person meetings.
What if I decide counselling isn’t right for me? That’s completely okay. You’re free to stop at any time, and we can discuss this openly if you’re feeling unsure. Sometimes taking a break and returning later works better for some people.
